Springtime for Prints
Friday, April 30th, 2010There used to be a time when prints did not belong in the realm of formal evening wear. Prints and patterns were more associated with Sunday dresses while solid shimmering colors were best suited for evening events. The rules have changed. Whether it’s your senior prom or a random night, with a stunning, well chosen print, you can become the center of attention.
Flower Power
Spring season is at its peak right now. It is the perfect time to wear vivid colors and floral prints. Nothing can make you stand out more than a colorful floral print strategically placed on your gown. You can choose between smooth, shimmering painted silk (or a fabric akin to it), or even breezy layers of almost translucent printed fabric. Prints have different effects on these draping surfaces. Colors tend to pop with silky fabrics. Chiffon and other light fabrics, on the other hand, work great with pastel floral prints. A floral print can bring out a glow of youthfulness. You can glide across the hall with an emphasized feminine grace.
Paisley and Swirly Patterns
Whether it is a subtle stylized paisley print lining the edges of your gown, or a barrage of monochromatically hued circles and swirls scattered across your entire outfit, patterns like these can effortlessly draw eyes to the wearer’s general direction.

Faux Animal Textures
Animal prints are this season’s edgy fad print. Not many are able to pull off wearing a spotted or striped print during formal evening occasions, though. The trick is to find a piece that does not overdo it. A gown cut from a single bold tiger print fabric may look more tacky than stylish. If, however, the animal print is used as more of an accent rather than a focal point, it can produce a sophisticated and seductive look the entire room would be attracted to. The print may be used as the inner lining on a slit or an artfully hiked-up skirt. Animal prints are better scaled down rather than blown up as well. You may also want to pick an unconventional color, such as a purple zebra print on a cocktail dress.

Things To Do To Be Pageant Ready
Wednesday, April 21st, 2010Planning to join a beauty pageant? Documentaries and pageant reality shows provide a glimpse of just how cut-throat the environment is behind the scenes of the event. Natural good looks can only get you so far. Before you sign up for a stake at the crown, remember that a pageant is still essentially a competition. And just like any other competition, preparations have to be made to make sure you have the best chance of winning.
Practice, Practice, Practice
Practice your walk, your talk, and the way you put on your makeup. Do that exercise where you walk around the room while balancing a book on your head. It really does help in maintaining good posture. Get used to walking in heels and in a flowing, floor-length gown.

Prepare Yourself Mentally
Look up on what is going on in current events and shape your opinions. Practice answering in a strong, clear tone that reflects your clear thinking. Know your platform inside and out. You never know what you are going to be asked.
Organize Your Stuff
On the day of the pageant, make sure you have everything set. Keep your clothes hung up so they won’t get wrinkles and you can easily find them and change into them during the event. Keep your cosmetics organized too. This way, you won’t stress out during quick wardrobe changes and makeup retouches.
Look Your Best
Your looks will be your main asset as you enter the pageant stage. Everything will lie on your first impression on the judges. You may be too far from the audience for them to scrutinize your appearance in detail but plucked eyebrows can go a long way in enhancing your beauty and nothing can make you feel more well groomed than having clean and freshly done nails. Sleep early to avoid bags under your eyes. And every time you are on stage, smile.
Before joining a pageant, do your research on pageant styling tips. When it comes to makeup, too little may make you look plain and washed out, while too much can make you look tacky. Search online for a good “pageant hairstyle”. Look at photos of all the current Miss USA and Miss America contestants for ideas on how to do your hair for the event. It may be best to get a gown from an established pageant dress couturier. Dressing beauty queens since 2006, Tony Bowls is one such fashion designer. His latest collection showcases stunning gowns fit for the pageant stage.
Prom Sexy: Smoky Eyes, Nude Lips!
Wednesday, April 14th, 2010For any gown-worthy occasion such as a prom, you should be nothing short of fabulous. It’s always fun picking the perfect dress and the right accessories, but remember that although your gown may turn heads, the crowd will mostly be looking at your face!

Create eye drama
Here’s one of our favorite looks: smoky eyes and nude lips! Nude lips in contrast with strong, dark eye makeup makes a bold, sexy statement. No other lip color plays off the smoky eye quite like a nude lip. This type of make-up can also literally match with anything that you are wearing. If you’re all about eye drama and subtle lips, then this is the best look for you. Highlighting your eyes always completes your entire look, so make sure you learn the smoky eye trick.
Here are some recommended colors: Dark shades of chocolate, jade and deep plum. Creating the smoky eye look can be tricky, but no, there’s no need to run to the nearest makeup artist. Practice it yourself! Line your eyes with black pencil liner, follow it up with a black liquid liner and top it off with a layer of smudged shadow. This will make the makeup last longer. If you really make your eyes the focal point, add some dramatic colors like aqua blue or green. No matter what colors you choose, make sure you pick those that complement your skin tone and eye color. Also, remember that the key is blending in the eye shadow flawlessly. If you do use several colors, it’s crucial to choose the right combination of light and dark shades. Top it off with a mascara to make your eyes look bigger.
Go for nude
Now, the lips. In order to get the right shade of nude lipstick, stay within two shades of your natural skin tone. This simply means that you should not get a dark lip shade when you have a lighter skin tone, and do not wear a light lip shade when you have darker skin. Beiges and nudes are the perfect choice when you want to make your eye makeup really pop out. Apply the nude shade to lips, then top off with gloss! Whatever you do, remember to keep it balanced. If your lips are strong, your eyes should be low-key, and vice versa.

Why Not Wear White?
Wednesday, April 7th, 2010While there always seems to be a good number of ladies wearing black in formal events, there would rarely be anyone in white. Some might think white is too bright a color for formal evening affairs. If it doesn’t look like a wedding gown, it can wash the wearer out into the background. The vulture-like fashion police, notoriously known for their unforgiving acerbic wit, might say they couldn’t tell where the gown ends and the table cloth begins.
This all begs the question, however: Why not wear white? Like any other color, with the right design and execution, it has the potential to look stunning and elegant. Just as white has the tendency to blend the wearer into background, which is a bad thing, it can also make her stand out as a visage of beauty and fashion-forward stylishness.

It’s All in the Details
Shine and shimmer are in this season, and white gowns are no exception. Tony Bowls takes it up a notch by creating designs with sparkling crystal embellishments tastefully incorporated in the bodice of the dresses. With their sleek style and glamorous air, these flowing gowns will definitely not be mistaken for wedding dresses.
It’s all in the details. White gowns with folds and pleats placed at strategic points can make the whole ensemble look anything but boring.

A Splash of Color
White gowns with vivid color prints make for amazing formal wear, especially for spring events. They give out a fun, fresh and flirty look that highlights the wearer’s youthfulness. Big floral prints in bright primary colors are starkly highlighted by the flowing white fabric canvas. These prints can make you stand out more than the most glittering colored gown in the hall.
Who Wears It Best
White is an excellent color for women with a darker complexion. If you have a tan or olive skin tone, white gowns can highlight your beautiful glow. Light colors help in making such skin tones glow, and a bright white gown may be just what is needed to make you look your best during a formal occasion.
White gowns are only as plain as the wearer makes them. You can put on a couple of accessories to spruce up your look or wear dramatic makeup. Tony Bowls Le Gala and Tony Bowls Paris showcase a handful of beautifully designed long white gowns, perfect for any formal night out.
